Veterans Reaching Veterans
Alliance Veterans is a place where veterans are welcome to talk, share and listen to others who have walked in their shoes. All veterans of each branch of the military, regardless of gender, or their widows or widowers, are welcome.
Alliance Veterans meets the third Monday evening of each month at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Murrysville Alliance Church. Meetings last approximately an hour and a half, and all discussions are shared and held in confidence.
Upcoming Alliance Veterans Events: (specific dates to be determined)Monthly Meetings - 7:00 PM (Third Monday of each month)March 2: Fisher House - MAC Veterans will prepare and serve breakfast to the residents and families of hospitalized veterans.May 18: Veterans Breakfast - 8:00 AM in the church Fellowship Hall. For all Veterans and their spouses, or widow/widowers of Veterans.August 22: Sewing Guild - Veterans provide setup, lifting, carrying, and tear-down of equipment used by sewers who make Christmas stockings for hospitalized soldiers in the US and overseas.September 15: Veterans Luncheon - 12:30 to 3:00 PM in the church Fellowship Hall. Open to all veterans in our community.September 28: Veterans Health Fair - Open to all veterans in the community. The following will be provided during the Fair: flu shots, haircuts, lunch, examinations by local physicians, including visions, dental, cardiology, and dermatology. October-November 18: A Soldier's Christmas - Our Alliance Veterans will be collecting items this year to send to local military personnel serving overseas during the Christmas holiday. We will begin colllecting a list of items in October. Deadline for collection and drop-off at MAC is November 25. Christmas boxes will be packed and shipped the Monday and Tuesday after Thanksgiving.November: Veterans Day Ceremony - Our Alliance Veterans will recognize and provide Veteran Service pins to those who served in uniform.
Other Activities:Flag Retirement (May) - MAC Veterans attend this ceremony of the Boy Scouts to support the patriotic disposal of damaged and soiled US flags.PA Heroes Walk (September) - MAC Veterans walk and make a donation to support this non-profit event which helps provided aid to needy veterans.Stand Down Pittsburgh (November) - A day-long services fair for local veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Access is provided to breakfast, lunch, health & community service providers, entertainment, barbers, clothing, and essential supplies.Food Pantry (monthly) - Several of our MAC Veterans attend area food banks and provide veterans information to families in need.Visitation of Veterans (throughout the year) - Several of our MAC Veterans visit other veterans who are in hospice care, and perform a ceremony to honor the veteran for his or her service to our country.
